About Me

I am a BABCP-registered Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and an NMC registered general nurse with a diverse background in both physical and mental health care. My career began in the Emergency Department, where I gained valuable experience in acute and critical care before discovering my true passion for mental health.

Over the years, I have worked extensively across CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) , including inpatient settings where I progressed from nurse and senior nurse to ward manager and later Clinical Nurse Specialist in eating disorders. I now manage a team of CAMHS practitioners in a community-based service, supporting young people living in a children’s home environment.

Alongside my specialist experience in child and adolescent mental health and eating disorders, I also provide CBT for children, adolescents and adults experiencing depression, anxiety disorders, low self-esteem, perfectionism, postnatal depression and anxiety, and other common mental health difficulties. I have particular interest and experience in working with neurodivergence (including ADHD and autism).

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, walking with my Shih Tzu (who is also a registered therapy dog called Lady), and travelling. I have a love for horses and own two, Freddie and Pickles who are a big part of my life.

My approach is warm, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based practice, with a strong focus on tailoring therapy to each individual’s needs.

I follow current evidence based guidelines, including The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) clinical guidance for the treatment of various mental health conditions.

FAQ

What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a practical talking therapy that looks at how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours affect each other. It helps you spot unhelpful patterns and find new ways of thinking and coping that support your well-being.

What will CBT help me with?

CBT can be really helpful for lots of different challenges, such as anxiety, depression, low mood, stress, panic, phobias, OCD, and self-esteem. It’s about giving you tools you can use in everyday life, so you feel more confident and in control.

What is CBT-E?

CBT-E (Enhanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is a type of CBT especially designed for people experiencing eating difficulties. It helps you understand the thoughts and behaviours that keep eating problems going and supports you in making positive, lasting changes to improve both your emotional and physical health.

How long are sessions?

The first appointment is an assessment, which usually lasts 60–90 minutes depending on your needs. This gives us time to explore what’s been going on for you and think about what support will be most helpful. Ongoing therapy sessions are around 50 minutes each.

How many sessions will I need?

This really depends on your individual needs and goals. Some people find a shorter course of therapy is enough, while others require longer to reach the changes they’re looking for. If it’s not fixed, we’ll review it together after your assessment and as therapy progresses, so the approach stays flexible and right for you.
If you’re unsure whether CBT is right for you, we can talk it through together in your free consultation.

Who are NICE?

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) produces official clinical guidelines based on evidence and expert input to promote best practices in healthcare in England and Wales.
NICE recommends Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as a first-choice treatment for various mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders (like panic disorder and social anxiety), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), sleep disorders (insomnia), and eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia. It is also recommended for people at risk of psychosis, adults with schizophrenia and psychosis, and for certain long-term conditions like body dysmorphic disorder and addictions.
